Greenvolt Group, through Enerpower powered by Greenvolt – Ireland’s leading renewable energy company – has implemented a 9MW solar farm at Dublin Airport, marking a significant step towards the airport’s sustainability journey. The project, comprising 15,000 high-efficiency panels, will provide 13% of the airport’s total electricity requirements, reducing its reliance on grid electricity and supporting Ireland’s ambitious renewable energy targets.
This project was designed and installed by Enerpower, powered by Greenvolt, to efficiently utilize solar energy by taking advantage of Ireland’s unique climate. Leveraging the renewable energy expertise of the Greenvolt Group – a global company with extensive experience across multiple markets – the project combines advanced technology to meet the site’s demands.
Located within the grounds of Dublin Airport, the 9 MW solar farm will generate approximately 8,685,776 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of clean energy annually, equivalent to powering 1,600 homes for a year. This project will not only enhance Dublin Airport’s energy independence but also significantly reduce its carbon footprint, avoiding approximately 2,583 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year.
“Ireland is a highly relevant market for Greenvolt Group, further strengthening our pan-European platform in the Distributed Generation segment. This project, implemented at a major European capital airport, reflects the trust that leading companies place in us and the decentralized energy solutions we provide,” said João Manso Neto, CEO of Greenvolt Group.
“Our partnership with Dublin Airport demonstrates how solar power can be seamlessly integrated to meet the energy needs of large-scale operations while supporting ambitious environmental goals. Ireland’s transition to renewable energy is firmly underway and significant projects such as this are a vital step to achieving a net zero economy by 2050.” said John Carty, CCO of Enerpower. “Since joining Greenvolt Group, Enerpower has significantly expanded its reach helping more businesses achieve sustainability goals”.
DAA is the operator of Dublin Airport and the solar farm aligns directly with its sustainability objectives and Ireland’s broader public sector climate goals. By 2030, daa aims to reduce Dublin Airport’s direct (Scope 1 and 2) emissions by 51%, with this solar project playing a key role in achieving that target.
Enerpower powered by Greenvolt, renowned for its expertise in renewable solutions, partnered closely with DAA to design and execute the solar farm, ensuring optimal performance and energy production. This project sets a new benchmark for decarbonization in the aviation sector, demonstrating that decentralized solar energy projects can be successfully integrated into airport infrastructure. Given the pan European reach of the Greenvolt Group, the aviation sector is a strategic pathway for growth and Greenvolt Group is a specialized player in the field.
