Marq Logistics

Advancing sustainability and tenants benefits: leading the pathway for logistic real estate

THE COMPANY

Marq, Integrating Sustainability into Modern Logistics

Marq Logistics is a global leader in the development and operation of modern logistics facilities. The company manages an international portfolio of approximately 2,000 properties, representing more than 600 million square feet of logistics space, and provides high-quality facilities for some of the world’s leading distribution and supply chain businesses.

Sustainability is central to Marq Logistics’ approach to property development and asset management. As its customers and tenants face increasing energy requirements from automation, electric vehicle fleets and the electrification of heating, Marq Logistics is investing in on-site renewable energy solutions that provide cleaner, more reliable and cost-effective electricity.

To advance this strategy across its portfolio, Marq Logistics partnered with Greenvolt Next to deliver rooftop solar photovoltaic systems at two major UK logistics facilities occupied by DHL and Bleckmann.

The partnership is helping Marq Logistics transform large, previously unused warehouse rooftops into renewable energy assets, supporting its customers’ sustainability objectives while improving the long-term energy performance of its properties.

THE PROJECT

Rooftop Solar Systems for DHL and Bleckmann Logistic Facilities

Greenvolt Next UK delivered two rooftop solar installations across Marq Logistics facilities in Milton Keynes and Magna Park Lutterworth.

At Milton Keynes, Greenvolt Next installed a 1.2 MW rooftop solar system comprising approximately 2,500 photovoltaic panels. The renewable electricity generated by the installation is used directly by DHL to support its day-to-day operations.

At Magna Park Lutterworth in Leicestershire, Greenvolt Next installed a 589 kWp rooftop solar system at a major distribution centre leased by Bleckmann, an international logistics specialist serving the fashion and lifestyle sectors.

The Bleckmann installation comprises 1,310 photovoltaic panels and has the potential to generate approximately 518 MWh of renewable electricity each year, avoiding an estimated 235 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually. The facility has also achieved BREEAM Excellent accreditation and an EPC A+ energy rating.

Together, the projects represent approximately 1.8 MW of installed rooftop solar capacity across Marq Logistics’ UK portfolio.

THE CHALLENGE, THE SOLUTIONS AND KEY RESULTS

Scaling Rooftop Solar Across Major Logistics Facilities

Large logistics and distribution centres consume significant amounts of electricity to power lighting, warehouse systems, automation, heating and transport operations.

The challenge was to introduce large-scale renewable energy generation across two active logistics facilities while ensuring that daily operations could continue without disruption.

Key considerations included:

Large and complex rooftop areas – each system had to be carefully designed around the structure, layout and operational requirements of the individual building.
Business continuity – installation work needed to be completed safely without interrupting DHL’s or Bleckmann’s logistics and distribution activities.
Different customer energy requirements – each system had to be designed to meet the specific electricity demand and operational profile of the building’s occupier.
Long-term asset performance – the installations needed to deliver reliable renewable electricity while complementing the high sustainability standards of the Marq Logistics facilities.
Multi-stakeholder coordination – Greenvolt Next worked closely with Marq Logistics, the occupiers and the wider project teams to manage installation, commissioning and operational requirements.
THE PARTNERSHIP

The Bleckmann installation was officially inaugurated on 28 May 2026, with representatives from Greenvolt Next, Marq Logistics and Bleckmann joined by Alberto Costa, Member of Parliament for South Leicestershire.

”The renewable energy projects support the tenant in two folds – first they achieve savings in power prices which is a very hot topic especially recently; and second, they achieve their sustainability goals.

Manuel GallioVice President of Renewable Asset Management, ARES

”The real providers are (…) companies like Greenvolt, that are involved in offering clients the necessary energy generation power plant equipment, in this case in the form of photovoltaic solar panels.

Alberto CostaMember of Parliament UK

”Rooftop solar helps distribution centres generate energy on-site, reduce exposure to volatile prices and cut emissions without disrupting operations.
