Greenvolt Next UK, part of the global Greenvolt Group, has announced new rooftop solar installations at two major UK shopping centres: Weston Favell in Northampton and Birchwood in Warrington. These installations mark another major step in the company’s mission to bring decentralised, renewable energy solutions to commercial and industrial sectors across the UK.

Powering Retail Spaces with Clean Energy

Greenvolt Next is accelerating rooftop solar installations for shopping centres in UK. In partnership with commercial property owner MDSR Investments, the new rooftop solar projects are expected to significantly reduce both energy costs and carbon emissions at each location. The systems will be installed under Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), enabling MDSR to benefit from clean, lower-cost electricity with no upfront capital expenditure.

Together, the two rooftop solar installations will generate nearly half a million kilowatt-hours of solar energy each year and offset more than 145 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually.

Weston Favell Shopping Centre
– Northampton

Capacity: 381 kWp
Number of panels: 848
Roof coverage: 4,114 m2
Estimated annual generation: 330,000 kWh
Share of site energy needs: ~26%
Annual CO₂ savings: 98 tonnes
Installation start: Early July 2025

Birchwood Shopping Centre
– Warrington

Capacity: 200 kWp
Number of panels: 452
Roof coverage: 1,564 m²
Estimated annual generation: 154,000 kWh
Share of site energy needs: ~29%
Annual CO₂ savings: 47 tonnes
Installation start: May 2025 (already underway)

Building on a Successful Track Record

This UK rollout follows a successful solar project between Greenvolt Group and MDSR Investments at the Nova Arcada shopping centre in Braga, Portugal. That installation featured 2,164 rooftop panels delivering 1.2 MWp capacity, enough to generate 1,531 MWh of clean electricity per year cutting grid demand by 34% and avoiding 303 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.

A Shared Vision for Decarbonisation

We are thrilled to support MDSR in bringing on-site green energy to their UK retail premises. Shopping centres offer vast, underused roof space that’s ideal for solar panels. With minimal disruption to operations, these installations are a practical step towards a greener grid.
