Greenvolt Next Wins Contract to Deliver 32MW Triple Solar Farm Development Across Amarenco’s Cork Sites

Amarenco has taken a major step forward in its renewable energy development programme with the appointment of Greenvolt Next to deliver three large-scale solar farm projects across Co. Cork.

Located in Carrigaline, Cobh and Timoleague, the three solar farms will have a combined installed capacity of 32MW. Once complete, the projects are expected to generate enough clean electricity to power approximately 38,000 homes each year.

Greenvolt Next, part of Greenvolt Group, has secured the EPC contract for the development and will manage the full delivery of the three sites, from construction through to completion. The official sod turning ceremony has taken place in Carrigaline, with all three projects earmarked for completion by mid-2027.

The partnership reflects the growing importance of large-scale renewable energy infrastructure in Ireland, supporting energy security, emissions reduction and long-term sustainability for communities and businesses.

A Major Large Scale Renewable Energy Development Across Cork

Amarenco is an Irish-founded European renewable energy company employing more than 200 people. The company invests in long-term energy infrastructure and works to deliver renewable energy projects that support communities as well as the environment.

The new solar farm developments will be located across three Cork sites in Carrigaline, Cobh and Timoleague. Together, they represent a significant clean energy investment for the region and will contribute to Ireland’s wider transition towards renewable electricity generation.

Three Solar Farms Delivering 32MW of Clean Energy

The three solar farms will have a combined installed capacity of 32MW, generating clean electricity from the sun at scale.

Once operational, the projects are expected to generate enough renewable electricity to power approximately 38,000 homes each year, equivalent to the combined homes of Carrigaline, Cobh and Timoleague.

This scale of generation will help increase the supply of renewable electricity in Ireland while supporting a more resilient and sustainable energy system.

Greenvolt Next to Manage Full EPC Delivery for Large Scale Renewable Development

Greenvolt Next has been appointed as EPC partner for the development, taking responsibility for the engineering, procurement and construction of all three solar farms.

Working in conjunction with Amarenco, which designed the project requirements, Greenvolt Next will manage every aspect of the development, from construction through to completion.

The delivery of three solar farms across separate sites requires a coordinated and experienced approach, ensuring each project is completed efficiently while meeting the technical, environmental and community requirements associated with large-scale renewable energy infrastructure.

Supporting Energy Security and Long-Term Sustainability

The development of solar farms at this scale offers significant benefits for Ireland’s renewable energy system.

By generating clean electricity locally, the projects will support energy security and help reduce exposure to energy price volatility. They will also contribute to the wider decarbonisation of electricity generation by increasing the volume of renewable power available to the grid.

For Amarenco, the projects represent an important milestone in its continued investment in long-term renewable energy infrastructure and its mission to deliver projects that create lasting environmental and community value.

Biodiversity and Soil Health Built Into the Development

Sustainability considerations will extend beyond renewable electricity generation.

As part of the solar farm development, Amarenco has extensive ecological plans to increase biodiversity across each site. The company will integrate its ECHO soil health monitoring programme across Carrigaline, Cobh and Timoleague.

Through ECHO, Amarenco works with local ecologists to take soil samples and establish exactly what the land needs to regenerate. The programme is designed to help restore soil health, improve the soil’s capacity to absorb carbon emissions, promote biodiversity and retain water.

This approach ensures that the solar farms are developed with long-term environmental stewardship in mind, supporting both clean energy generation and the regeneration of local ecosystems.

Community Benefit Funds to Support Local Initiatives

Once the projects are operational, Community Benefit Funds will be established for each locality.

These funds will help support community groups, sports projects and local initiatives in Carrigaline, Cobh and Timoleague, ensuring that the benefits of the developments extend beyond renewable electricity generation.

The funds will provide an opportunity for local communities to share in the long-term value created by the projects.

A New Benchmark for Large-Scale Renewable Energy Development

We are delighted to announce our partnership with Amarenco that will see Greenvolt Next construct three major solar farm sites in Cork. Through the integration of state-of-the-art technology, Amarenco will benefit from considerable volumes of solar energy, helping it to lead the way in the green energy space.
