From multinational chains to ambitious independents, retailers across Ireland are stepping into a new era of energy, driven by renewable solutions that are smarter, cleaner, and increasingly cost-effective. At the heart of this transformation is Greenvolt Next Ireland, a company leading the charge with end-to-end energy systems tailored specifically to the needs of the retail sector.

“From household names to ambitious independents, we’re proud to power progress across the retail sector with tailored, end-to-end energy systems,” says Owen Power, Managing Director at Greenvolt Next Ireland. “Because when it comes to renewables, one size never fits all.”

Why Retailers Are Uniquely Positioned to Lead in Renewables?

Retailers have a significant, often overlooked asset: large, flat-roofed stores and distribution centres that are perfectly suited for solar PV installations. These spaces offer the capacity for high-output systems, with minimal disruption to daily operations, a win-win for any business.

Greenvolt Next Ireland has made it their mission to unlock that potential. Operating in Ireland for over 20 years (formerly as Enerpower) and part of the Greenvolt Group, which spans 12 countries, they’ve built a strong track record of delivering results.

Over 100 Retail Stores and Counting

Greenvolt Next’s retail partnerships speak volumes. Owen Power highlights one of the company’s major milestones:

“We’ve partnered with retailers such as Lidl, to install rooftop solar panels on over 100 stores across Ireland. These systems now generate approximately 119,980 kWh per year, reducing CO₂ emissions by 36 tonnes annually per store. That’s a meaningful shift toward energy independence—and a big step in decarbonisation.”

Spotlight: Tesco Ireland’s Liffey Valley Store

Among Greenvolt Next’s long-standing collaborators is Tesco Ireland. At their Liffey Valley location, Greenvolt Next installed 1,088 solar panels, delivering an impressive 500kW of solar energy. That’s enough clean power to significantly cut grid reliance, equivalent to planting 306 trees per year.

Affordable, Scalable, and Smart: The Power of PPAs for the Retail Sector

Of course, cost remains a critical concern in retail, where tight margins demand careful investment. But the good news? Going solar no longer means massive upfront expenses.

Thanks to falling equipment prices and innovative financing models like Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), renewable energy is more accessible than ever. PPAs allow businesses to offset installation costs with the electricity they produce, providing long-term financial stability and energy price certainty

“From multinational retailers to local businesses, the opportunity to decarbonise, reduce costs, and build long-term energy resilience is very possible,” Owen Power concludes. “And Greenvolt Next Ireland is here to bring energy next to you.”
